In 1962 PORTER was launched as the first private label from Yoshida & Co. with the focus being on connecting customers with the manufacturer of their product by providing more transparency on production methods, materials and design processes - an area that founder Kichizo Yoshida believed was overlooked by other manufacturers at the time. Since then, they have gone on to produce over 1,500 bags, crafting products suitable for every occasion - finished using premium fabrics, hardware and production methods that are in-tune with modern day expectations.
The story of Yoshida & Co. began in 1935, when the brand's founder, Kichizo Yoshida, created Yoshida Kaban Seisakujo - known at the time as Yoshida Bag Works. A few years on, war broke out, and Kichizo was drafted into the military, halting all production for the foreseeable future. During this time, Yoshida's wife Chika gathered all of his production tools and textiles and stored them in a secure place to prevent them from being destroyed by the war.
